Here we are starting the Eighth month! Your baby weighs around 2 1/2 to 3 pounds as we start this new month and will add another 2 to 2 1/2 pounds by the end of this month. They have also grown taller, lengthening to 16 1/2 to 18 inches long. Your baby is growing longer and gaining healthy fat.
The fine hair that covered their body is now starting to disappear and the hair on their head is starting to grow instead. Your baby can see and hear and responds to sound, pain, and light. You will feel your baby kicking more. Your baby continues to move and exercise his muscles and turns around in different positions. They may hiccup with all of that movement, causing some small rhythmic sensations in the uterus that you can feel.
Their brain is developing rapidly. All of the internal systems are well developed except their lungs, they are still maturing.
The bones of their head are soft and flexible in preparation for passing through the birth canal. It can take 9-18 months before the baby’s skull is fully formed. These bones will finish fusing together around 2 years old. Even the bones in their hands and wrists will not be completely hardened until they are nearly 17 years old!
