Two months have passed now and we have seen stunning growth in such a tiny baby!
You may have heard or seen your baby referred to as an “Embryo”. Here is a definition:
Embryo – An unborn human offspring in the process of development during the period from approximately the 2nd to the 8th week after fertilization.
Your baby is no longer an Embryo but is now a “Fetus”. Here is a definition:
Fetus – An unborn offspring of a mammal, in particular an unborn human baby more than 8 weeks after conception.
So let’s see what is happening during this month!
Your baby is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. By the end of this month, your baby is about 3 inches long and weighs about 1 ounce. They have fully formed arms and legs, hands and feet, and fully formed fingers and toes.
The fingernails and toenails are starting to develop.
Their external ears are formed and your baby’s tooth sockets and tooth “buds” are forming in the jawbones. His or her eyelids are still fused but their eyes are almost fully developed.
If your baby is a boy, his external sex organs are apparent and his testicles already contain sperm! If your baby is a girl, her ovaries already contain ova or “eggs”! So much is happening! Lastly, a heartbeat can now be detected with a special stethoscope. You will be able to hear that little heart pumping blood all through your baby’s tiny body! This is so exciting! What a marvelous journey you are on with your baby!
