One, two, three, kick! Your beautiful baby is quite active!
Up until now you may not be aware of all the activity that is happening inside of you! They have been turning and tumbling and kicking and punching, as they stretch out their little limbs. They continue to grow at an amazing rate. Last month he or she was about 7″ long. Believe it or not, they grew another 3 to 5 inches this month! They are now between 10 and 12 inches long.
If you have any older children, you may know that at most they will grow about 5 inches over a year’s time. It is so astonishing that your little baby’s body is designed to grow so quickly, by comparison.
Your baby weighs between 1/2 and 1 pound. All of their internal organs are maturing at a very fast pace. However, their lungs are insufficiently developed to cope with living outside of the uterus at this time. Their eyelids are still fused together and some hair may be present on their head. Your baby is busy exercising their developing muscles.
Although, he or she has been moving for some time now, this is the month that most mothers feel some of those movements. They may feel like small fluttering sensations. This movement is called “quickening”.
It’s a very special time to think about this small, little person that is growing inside of you. What a great privilege we have to experience such an important part of life!
